Working from the idea that objects are imbued with the stories of their owner, I felt compelled to save the personal possessions that others I know cannot. These objects were held onto for their ability to act as mnemonic triggers to otherwise forgotten stories. Balancing as many items as possible (like a totem of the recent past) addresses the concepts of time and legacy as well as the desire for permanence despite impermanence. Questioning the impulse to save everything for fear of forgetting, the video linear current embed in the sculpture recreates each object using a medium that reflects the changes in one’s memory over time.
